Description

Are you fascinated by birds of prey and would you love to get as close as possible to them? If so, the Eagles, Raptors & Rainforest Experience is for you! This Ketchikan excursion provides you with an incredibly intimate and up-close participation at the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary, which is home to a variety of native birds at the center's private 40-acre reserve. The highlights of this tour include a presentation at the flight auditorium and raptor courtyard as well as a nature walk through the lush temperate rainforest. If you love wildlife, especially eagles and raptors, you'll love this Ketchikan tour!

Your wildlife journey begins with a convenient pick up at the cruise ship docks and a scenic 8-mile coastal drive to the reserve. A leisurely half-mile walk with your naturalist guide leads you through the forest to an overlook at Herring Creek. A variety of wildlife frequent this area, especially during the summer when bears and seals come to feast on salmon! Have your camera ready and don't hesitate to ask your friendly guide questions about the local plants and animals! Next, it's time to enjoy an exciting presentation at the flight auditorium where you'll learn about the behaviors of these birds while they fly right before your eyes! Additionally, you'll visit the raptor courtyard for viewing more incredible birds and a Q&A with the handler.

This raptor center and other similar organizations have done such amazing work rehabilitating these birds of prey that they have been able to move the Bald Eagle off of the endangered species list. Part of the proceeds from these tours directly benefits their rehabilitation efforts, education, and research.

There's lots more to explore at the center and you'll have free time to do so! Check out the historic Lumber Company Saw Mill, see the impressive totem pole park, watch a blacksmith at work, and shop for unique goods at the general store. You'll return back to town with a camera full of incredible wildlife photos and fond memories from your Eagles, Raptors & Rainforest Experience!
