      Description

Explore Juneau by sea and enjoy views of the Mendenhall Glacier on this adventurous sea kayaking tour! The Glacier View Sea Kayak takes you to North Douglas Island, where you will keep an eye out for wildlife and be able to see views of the famous Mendenhall Glacier as it winds it's way up the mountains into the Juneau Icefield. With abundant wildlife opportunities, stunning views, and a peaceful paddle, this is among the premier Juneau kayaking tours you will find. Don't forget your camera or binoculars, there will be beauty everywhere you look!

As with most Juneau kayaking tours, your Glacier View Sea Kayak will begin with pickup by your cruise docks, however, it will soon diverge from the pack. This tour takes you away from Juneau to the north end of Douglas Island, for spectacular views and a serene setting away from the crowds that you won't find on any other tour. After gearing up, your guide will help you launch your tandem kayaks to begin your easy paddle through the Mendenhall Wetlands. Though spectacular views have surrounded you on your journey out to the paddle, this is when your 360-degree views of Juneau, its mountains, and the famous Mendenhall Glacier truly begin.

Look to the West and you will see your unique view of the Glacier in the distance sneaking its way through the icy peaks that surround it, but bring your eyes closer and you may be able to spot a bit livelier of a scene. Seals, sea lions, porpoises, bald eagles, herons, and even whales have been known to peak in on the Glacier View Sea Kayak. Throughout the tour, keep your ears open for the unique perspective your guide has to offer on the area and its flora and fauna; they may even share their take on the story of Smuggler's cove. When you return to shore, a delicious snack will be waiting to warm you up before you travel back to the cruise docks, with beautiful views still surrounding you all the while!

      Frequently Asked Questions

Will the trip still operate if it is raining?
All of our tours operate rain or shine. Much of SE Alaska lies in a temperate rainforest, and we would never do anything if we stopped for rain! With that said, if weather conditions are unsafe, the trip will be canceled, and we will provide a refund. This can happen on kayaking or canoeing trips from time to time and will be typically related to sea or lake conditions, not rain.
What about restroom facilities along the way?
You'll have a chance at the gear base to use the restroom but after that we will be entering the great outdoors. We recommend all guests follow 'Leave No Trace Principles' and should the need arise, we request packing all trash from the trip including toilet paper. If this is of concern for you, we recommend bringing toilet paper and a ziploc bag for easy packing.
      How difficult is the kayaking?
This trip is rated as 'Easy' or 'Moderate' and we can accommodate even beginner kayakers. There is a recommended fitness level with the ability to paddle and sit in a kayak for up to 1.75 hours.
