Description

Experience one of the finest tours in Skagway, offering a perfect blend of breathtaking landscapes and wildlife encounters. The Yukon Discovery is a guided, full-day adventure starting just outside the dock in Skagway, taking you into Canada’s Yukon Territory. Journey north in a comfortable mini-coach, ascending over 3,000 ft. to traverse the White Pass summit, crossing through British Columbia and entering the Yukon Territory. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as moose, caribou, sheep, and bears along the scenic Klondike Highway. The stop in Carcross, Yukon allows for a visit to a wildlife museum, a petting farm, and the chance to delight in the company of adorable husky puppies. Following lunch, continue to the stunning Emerald Lake, a sight so spectacular it may seem Photoshopped.

Interestingly, one of the highly recommended activities in Skagway isn't actually within Skagway itself! Yukon day trips are favored for providing a rare opportunity to hit the highway and explore the interior, unlike Juneau or Ketchikan where road access is limited. The local guide's narration enriches the journey with historical insights into the Klondike Gold Rush from over a century ago.

Carcross, with its local flair, offers a distinctive experience not found in the port towns, providing a glimpse into the remote and vast landscape. Concluding the day with a visit to Emerald Lake and the return journey to Skagway completes one of the most comprehensive and value-packed excursions in the area.

For an enhanced experience, consider upgrading to the Yukon Discovery and Sled Dog Tour. This option includes all the features of the standard tour plus a 30-minute Alaskan sled dog experience. Enjoy a ride on the trail and engage in a question and answer session with the local mushers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will we see wildlife?
Of the various Skagway tours, the Yukon adventures have one of the strongest opportunities for wildlife viewing. Tours entering Yukon include a chance of encountering caribou, sheep, mountain goats, and sometimes even bears and moose. While your chances are good, we cannot guarantee wildlife sightings.
Are there shopping opportunities?

Yes! In Yukon, we make a stop at Wild Adventure Yukon as well as the historic town of Carcross, both with opportunities for Canadian souvenirs.

Are there photo opportunities?
Yes! There are opportunities and pull-outs along the way to get off the bus and take pictures.
What type of vehicles are used?
For this particular tour, comfortable custom mini-coaches are provided, with a 14-to-28 passenger capacity. All feature large touring windows, bucket seats and PA systems for the guide to communicate along the way.
What is served for lunch?

A stop at Wild Adventure Yukon includes a homemade BBQ chicken lunch with baked potato, coleslaw, dinner rolls, and their famous all-you-can-eat donuts. As a vegetarian option, an Indian Dahl replaces the chicken portion of the meal.
