Description
This is a relaxed, welcoming experience that gives you a good feel for Skagway’s gold rush history without taking up your whole day. Over two hours, you’ll enjoy good food, light entertainment, and a chance to try something hands-on, all in a scenic setting just outside town near White Pass.
After a short transfer from the dock, you’ll arrive at a historic trail camp set beside a waterfall. The sound of the water and the wooded surroundings make it feel peaceful right away. You’re free to look around, take photos, and get comfortable before the main activities begin.
The meal is a big highlight for most guests. It’s served buffet-style and features wild Alaska salmon grilled over alderwood, along with chicken, baked beans, rice, salads, and other sides. You can eat at your own pace and go back for more if you like. Dessert is a homemade blueberry cake, and the whole setup feels casual and family-friendly.
Once everyone has eaten, you’ll head to a small indoor space for a short gold rush–style show. The performers wear period clothing and keep things light and humorous. It’s easy to follow and meant to entertain rather than teach a formal history lesson.
After that, you’ll learn how gold panning works. A prospector walks you through the basics, then you’ll try it yourself. Everyone finds real gold, and you keep what you find. Before heading back, there’s time to explore the camp, browse the gift shop, enjoy a cookie and warm cider, or take a few last photos by the waterfall. It’s an easygoing stop that combines food, history, and a bit of fun in one place.
