You’ll have to convince everyone that you didn’t Photoshop your pictures!
One of the best Skagway tours, this one delivers a superb combination of scenery and wildlife opportunities. The Yukon Discovery is a full-day, guided trip from Skagway into Canada’s Yukon Territory. Starting right outside the dock, climb north in a comfortable mini-coach, gaining almost 3,000 ft. up and over the White Pass summit and entering first British Columbia and then Yukon Territory. It’s not uncommon to see moose, caribou, sheep or bears along the remote Klondike Highway. Stopping in Carcross, Yukon provides time to visit with husky dog teams and view the cute puppies as well. After lunch, continue on to Emerald Lake which is a spectacular sight – you might have to convince your friends and family that you didn’t Photoshop the pictures.

What to expect and what not to expect with this Skagway shore excursion

One of our top recommendations for things to do in Skagway actually isn’t in Skagway! We love Yukon day trips because Skagway provides one of the rare opportunities to get on a highway and explore the interior. There are no roads in or out of Juneau or Ketchikan, so it’s no surprise that many use this opportunity to get off the coast. The narration provided by the local guide along the way paints a great backdrop of the history and atmosphere of the Klondike Gold Rush over a century ago.

We also love the sense of local flair found in Carcross that isn’t found in the port towns. It provides a slightly different experience and a glimpse into a still remote and vast land. Rounding the day off with time at Emerald Lake and return journey Skagway caps off one of the most thorough Skagway excursions at a great value.

  • Dock-to-dock transportation
  • 6.5 hours duration
  • Lunch provided / Veggie options available
  • View husky puppies
  • Includes educational visit to Wildlife Museum
  • Best chances for wildlife opportunities

You may consider upgrading to the Yukon Discovery and Sled Dog Tour which includes all the same features plus a 30-minute husky dog experience. This includes a ride on the trail, as well as a question and answer session with the local mushers.

And for another Historical Experience in Alaska, take a look at the Whale Watching, Mendenhall Glacier, and Juneau City Tour in Juneau, or the Totem Bight State Historical Park & Rainforest Canoe out of Ketchikan!

You've got questions, we've got answers
    Q:What is served for lunch?
A stop at Caribou Crossing Trading Post includes a homemade BBQ chicken lunch with baked potato, coleslaw, dinner rolls, and their famous all-you-can-eat donuts. As a vegetarian option, an Indian dahl replaces the chicken portion of the meal. Please let us know about vegetarian preferences when making your reservation.
    Q:Are there photo opportunities?
Yes! There are opportunities and pull-outs along the way to get off the bus and take pictures.
Q:What type of vehicles are used?
For this particular tour, comfortable custom mini-coaches are provided, with a 14-to-28 passenger capacity. All feature large touring windows, bucket seats and PA systems for the guide to communicate along the way.
    Q:Will we see wildlife?
Of the various Skagway tours, the Yukon adventures have one of the strongest opportunities for wildlife viewing. Tours entering Yukon include a chance of encountering caribou, sheep, mountain goats, and sometimes even bears and moose.
    Q:Are there shopping opportunities?
Yes! In Yukon, we make a stop at Caribou Crossing Trading Post as well as the historic town of Carcross, both with opportunities for Canadian souvenirs.
Q:Why are passports required for this tour?
This tour enters Canada’s Yukon Territory and passports will be required to go through the Canadian customs post, as well as to re-enter the United States. Passports are required for all adults and children accompanying parents should have an original or certified copy or birth certificate or a passport. If one or both parents are not traveling with the child, a notarized letter of authorization from the absent parent(s) is also necessary to cross into Canada. Every passenger should be informed of the requirements on your confirmation form. If passengers show up for the tour without the proper ID, they will not be allowed to board. While we will attempt to accommodate passengers lacking identification, there is no guarantee that suitable arrangements can be made, and no refund will be given under these circumstances. Passengers with felonies, DUI, or criminal charges are not allowed entry into Canada.
