You can't come to Skagway without at least popping your head i the Red Onion Saloon. Built in 1897 it was operated as a one of the high class bordellos in town, now they serve up cocktails , wine and beer and some good bar food. Bud don't be surprised if there are goodtime girls walking the floor and musicians playing old time music. The "madams" offer a tour of the upstairs brothel museum. Hear entertaining tales of the women who worked upstairs and see some of the many artifacts they left behind, including a priceless silver dress. If you are interested in ghost hunting bring a camera and see if you can capture the resident ghost, Lydia. They also offer a walking tour of the city led but one of the madams which is highly informative and highly entertaining. If you are interested in a walking tour, this one is recommended These ladies really know how to turn you on ... to history!
Local Tip: If you are a music buff, or know someone who is, Red Onion sells a couple different CD's by local Alaskan Old bands that regularly play there. If you miss the live music in the saloon, you can buy a CD and bring the saloon music back to your home!
